“The Trail” is the term used to describe US 41 or Tamiami Trail. It was originally the way “to Miami” and thus was given this name. In Sarasota the term “West of the Trail” is just that. It is how residents refer to the area that is west of US41 and that goes to the water’s edge. It is considered a very desirable location as it is in these areas that one will have easy access to the water, the barrier islands and all of the conveniences that run along The Trail. More specifically, a lot of people will be thinking of the areas in nearest to the downtown and the hospital and won’t necessarily be going much past Stickney Point in their definition. Within these areas are some of the most historic and charming homes that Sarasota has to offer as this is where some of our oldest residences are located. Many of these are quite charming and many of them have been restored beautifully. Folks who live in these areas are fortunate to have short commutes for the most part and they are areas that are fun for walking or biking. Many eating establishments and shopping choices are nearby and so this becomes a rather intimate and cozy place to live as it really feels more like a small town in some ways with kids out on the sidewalks walking to school and the like. Home values are typically strong in these areas, largely impacted by the proximity to the water.
