The Oaks Club
At the south end of Sarasota is the lovely town of Osprey. One would really not know they have left Sarasota proper as it is a seamless transition with little evidence that one has entered a new town, best known for its lovely, gated community of The Oaks. This wonderful country club community is home to 2 championship golf courses, the Heron Course and the Eagle Course as well as fabulous tennis facilities that include 12-Har-Tru courts, a tournament-rated croquet court, large swimming complex and many other wonderful amenities. There is even a wonderful guest lodge on the property for those times a person has overflow out-of-town visitors and would like to take advantage of additional lodging.

Designed in a wonderful classic southern style, the gorgeous 34,000 square foot clubhouse is a great part of the community and is the site of many social events. It features a vast collection of English and French antique furniture and art giving it a warm and welcoming feel. There are numerous restaurants within the club including The Glen Room, which is for formal dining, the Tavern, which includes a bar and adult gathering area and The Grille Room and Bar, which is the 19th hole bar and grill. Additionally, a large ballroom is perfect for big holiday events, wedding receptions, community-wide functions and so on. Connected to the Club is the newly constructed Golf Shop which offers a tremendous selection of clothing, equipment and accessories. There are different levels of membership available to those who own in The Oaks but all residents are required to belong to the Club at some level. Who wouldn’t want to belong anyway?
The Oaks is made up of three distinct sections and offers a very wide assortment of housing options. The Oaks Bayside is the section that is west of US 41 and has a number of estate-sized homes that sit directly on Sarasota Bay as well as many beautiful custom homes that range from about 3000-12,000 square feet. There are gorgeous winding roads through the community and many large trees help to shade the area. The Oaks Clubside is the section that is east of US41 and where the golf courses and clubhouse are located. This section is larger than the Bayside but, again, has wonderful large trees and lakes that add to the beauty. Most of the homes overlook natural preserves or have great views of the golf courses. The final section is The Oaks Preserve. This area is also located west of US41 and is where one will find the maintenance-free homes and villas as well as the condominium options known as The Meridian.
Amenities and Activities
There are many options available for recreation and relaxation for the fortunate ones who call The Oaks home. Be it for a young family with children or empty nesters or retirees, there are activities of all sorts offered. For instance, there are many organized sporting activities, a Women’s Club, a Men’s Club, bridge, gardening, art and literary groups that meet. There are special social events and dinner-dances occur on a regular basis. There are many family activities that reflect a commitment to those with children like Halloween parties that include golf cart trick-or-treating and Easter Egg Hunts and the like. A person can be as involved as they choose to be and have the time to be!
When it comes to a prime location The Oaks can’t be beat. It is rare to find a wonderful, sprawling community with two 18-hole golf courses so close into “town” and with such easy access to shopping, restaurants, the beach, downtown Sarasota and so on. Located just off of US 41 at the quiet end of town this truly is unmatched. Step onto the #1 Beach in all of the United States in 15 minutes or be seated at Marina Jacks Restaurant in the downtown bayfront area in 20 minutes! It just doesn’t get better than that.
The Oaks Club Golf Courses
The Oaks Club has 2 – 18 hole par 72 courses, the Heron course and the Eagle course. The Eagle course is probably the only course in Florida that is Sea Isle Paspalum grass from tee to green. Paspalum exhibits a fine leaf texture similar to hybrid Bermuda grass and can offer very “fast” conditions on fairways and greens and is a joy to play on.
The Oaks Club course statistics:
- Eagle Golf Course yardage ranging from 5,022 to 7,003 yards, Sea Isle Supreme Paspalum grass from tee to green
- Heron Golf Course yardage ranging from 4,986 to 6,695 yards
- State-of-the-art practice facilities
- Designed for play at various levels, there are five tee alternatives at each hole.
- The recently renovated locker rooms are fully staffed
- Fantastic pro shop with extensive product offerings
