It is not a good statement when one reads that in 2010, home warranty companies led Angie’s List of the most complained-about companies. That is not too encouraging but that doesn’t mean that all home warranties are bad. Perhaps people have not understood what they were buying or being given. (As many people do offer this as part of a home sale transaction in an effort to give some comfort to the buyer that what they are purchasing is going to be under warranty.) What one should realize right off the bat is that the term “warranty” probably isn’t the best way to think of this. Instead, one should really consider that what these companies are selling is more if a service contract. They are providing a service that will get repair people in place if there is a need. They aren’t placing a “warranty” on anything necessarily. My advice is that, as in all things in life, do your homework. Be aware of just what it is that you are paying for and then have expectations in line with that.

The Dow is up 22% from its low March 2nd.
Thursday the market surged 246.27 points or a 3.14% gain driven my Wells Fargo’s forecast of a $3billion profit for the first quater. The reason was welcome news as well: a big jump in mortgages. As mortgage applications were up 64% over the fourth quarter of 2008 and that the surge is continuing into the second quarter. Link to Wells Fargo Press Release

The credit flow is quickening as companies with good credit are borrowing more money according to a recent article in the New York Times. Link to Herald Article

Florida home sales increased 20% in Feburary, while nationally sales rose 5.1%. Link to Herald Article

Real Estate, especially in a place like Sarasota Florida is a terrific investment. It may just be the best time ever to buy, before it becomes an accept fact that the bottom of the market is past us. Once that becomes generally accepted comon knowledge sellers will become less motivated and the best opportunities will have been missed. While the real estate market is not likely to see the kind of short term gains we have seen recently in the stock market over the long term it will continue to be safest and most lucrative place to invest.
